Quepos Fishing Report -Friday December 9, 2010

Quepos Fishing Report -Friday December 9, 2010

Today we fished with Greg and Tim from Seattle. We ended up getting a couple of Tuna and a Dorado. The fishing was slow and the water was marginal. We needed to go further out but just didn't have time. I was hearing good reports but most of the boats were 35+ miles out. There is good fishing now with a lot of Marlin being caught.

Here's a few pics from yesterday.

Thanks for reading and check back soon for more photos!

Quepos Fishing Report -Friday November 12, 2010

Quepos Fishing Report -Friday November 12, 2010

There is some good fishing out of Quepos right now. Boats are catching Marlin, Sails, Tuna and Dorado every day.  There is a lot of debris out there from the recent storms so I'm sure that stuff is holding some fish. I hope to get out there within the next few days and that way I can submit a first hand report.

Check back soon for updates and photos.

Quepos Fishing Report -Monday October 25, 2010

Quepos Fishing Report -Monday October 25, 2010

Today we headed out looking for some Dorado. We found them! Here's the Captain (yours truly) with my first fish that I have caught on my boat. We ended up with 10 in all. We got another one that was about this same size. The fishing is really good right now out of Quepos. One of the boats caught a 150-200 lb Black Marlin today 5 miles offshore! Right where we were yesterday...... oh well... hopefully we will get back out there and get some more later in the week.

Quepos Fishing Report-Tuesday September 12,2010

Quepos Fishing Report-Tuesday September 12,2010

Today we fished offshore with some guys from Tampa. They wanted to try for Billfish so we headed out of quepos to the South. We had good luck a few days ago in this direction but as we got out to the 22-25 mile range we couldn't find any birds or bait. We made a turn to the North and trolled for a few hours in that direction without seeing any action. I decided to try the 26 as a last resort and we were lucky to save the day with a couple of really nice Wahoo. Here's a couple of photos~

Tony with a good size Wahoo. Nice work Tony!

Here's Tom with his Wahoo. It really gave him a fight!

As you can see there is some good fishing right now in Costa Rica. The Marlin bite has been on as well. I almost ran over one with the boat today. It was tailing down sea and almost ran into the bow! If we had been just about 10 seconds earlier she would have passed right through our baits....... oh well, that's how it goes. Thanks for reading and tight lines!

Quepos Fishing Report-Saturday September 11,2010

Quepos Fishing Report-Saturday September 11,2010

Today we headed out of Quepos looking for the Tuna Schools. We ran out about 23 miles and started fishing. Within 20 minutes we had a strike and hook up on the Shotgun. It was a small Yellowfin. We were all pretty excited to have some fresh Sashimi. We ended up getting 2 more Yellowfins that were bigger. One of the Clients wasn't feeling too well and wanted to head in so we called it a day. A good day of fishing for sure. Here are a few photos.
Here's Jud from Atlanta with a little Yellowfin

Mate Mario and Jud show off 2 nice Yellowfins!!

Quepos Fishing Report- Saturday September 4, 2010

We fished the 26 again yesterday. It was slow going but we stuck it out and came away with a Sail and a nice Wahoo. Our Clients were happy because they hadn't ever caught a Sail or Wahoo before! Glad to hook them up on their first of each! Here's Bill and Cindy from Florida with their fish. Great work guys. Thanks for fishing with us!

Bill with his first Sailfish!

and here's Cindy with a nice Wahoo.

Hopefully we'll get out there soon and get some more. As you can see, the fishing is still great here in Costa Rica, even in the "off" season.

Book your Charters now as the Season is going to be here before we know it.

Quepos Fishing Report-Tuesday August 31,2010

Quepos Fishing Report- Tuesday August 31, 2010

Today we fished the Venti Seis Rock again. I was kind of worried as we ran out due to the amount of green and brown water from the recent rains but once we got about 5 miles from the rock it started to clear up. Within 10 minutes of having our lines in the water I saw a Sailfish come up on the left short rigger. He immediately switched to the right short rigger and we hooked him up right away. While all of this was going on we got a Wahoo hooked up too! After about 5 min the line that we had the Sail on went slack.... bummer. When we retrieved the line we could see that a Wahoo had gone for the swivel and cut the leader about 2 inches behind it. Neill was bummed on losing the Sail but came back strong landing a nice Amberjack. We also got a small Dorado, a Rainbow Runner, a Yellowfin and a few Bonitos for bait. When the tide went out the green water moved out with it and once it got around the Rock we stopped getting any action and decided to pick up the lines and run back to Quepos. Wish we had been able to get there a little earlier.  Here are a few Photos.

Here's Jud with his Wahoo.

Mate Mario with Neill's Amberjack. Neill could barely lift it!

Quepos Fishing Report- Monday July 12, 2010-

Here's how I want the Manta....... Hopefully in the next few months while the fishing is slow and the weather isn't so good, I can make some changes. I really like the open feel and space. I'm also thinking of removing the lower helm station.

We haven't been fishing so I don't really have a report. I do know that some boats are getting a few Sails and that there has been a good Marlin bite out there. One of the boats out of Quepos got a 400+ lb Blue Marlin last Thursday. Hope to get out there soon!

Thanks for reading!

Fishing Report -Friday July 09, 2010

Quepos Fishing Report- July 10, 2010

Today we did some inshore fishing. Here is Beth with a nice little Spanish Mackerel. We got 5 more like this and a few Jacks. All in about 45 minutes! There were some nice schools of Sardines around Quepos so we took advantage and trolled around them. The small red and black Drone spoon on a planer was really working well for the Spanish.

Meanwhile offshore my buddy Capt. Dave Dobbins on the Barbarosa got a 400+ lb Marlin on Thursday. Nice work guys!

Quepos Fishing Report- Saturday July 3, 2010-

Here's our new flyer.

We should have a trip coming up next week. I have heard some good reports from Quepos in the last few days. I heard some boats got some Sailfish yesterday. Sure would like to get out there and get a couple of those. I think there are still good numbers of Wahoo and Tuna around the 26 Rock. I will post a report as soon as we fish.

Quepos Fishing Report- Saturday June 26, 2010

NEWS FLASH!

La Manta Sportfishing is now located in the new Marina Pez-Vela in Quepos! We are really excited to be one of the first 5 boats into the new Marina. We hope that this change will provide our clients with better service and convenience. No more Panga rides out to the mooring to get the boat. Also no more tying up at the pier to get water or fuel.... well, maybe fuel, for just a bit longer. The Marina has a nice store that sells most anything that you need from Drinks/Snacks, Bait, Lures, Rigging Supplies, Cleaning Supplies and much more.

We have a few trips coming up so stay tuned for more fishing reports.

Quepos Fishing Report- Tuesday June 22, 2010

We ended up heading back out to the Venti Seis Rock again yesterday with Eric and Scott from North Carolina for their second day of fishing with us. The weather was beautiful and the water was really blue and clear. Here's a photo of Eric with a nice little Wee-hoo. It turned out to be a slow day as we only got a Wahoo and a Yellowtail Snapper. At least the guys took home some good dinner!

The fishing is still going off here in Costa Rica even though this is not considered high season. We are continuing to book trips so Contact Us today to reserve your spot.

Fishing Report -Sunday June 20, 2010

Quepos Fishing Report- June 20, 2010-

Today we fished at the 26 rock again. We ended up catching some nice bonito baits and sending the down on the rock. Here's Scott from North Carolina with a really nice Cubera Snapper. This one was probably around 40 pounds.

Here's Eric from North Carolina with a nice little Roosterfish. We caught this one on a Bonito cut bait. After some bottom fishing we got back to trolling. We were catching some nice small Bonitos so we figured that we should do a little live bait fishing on the bottom.

Here we have a nice Wahoo and Yellowfin Tuna. These made for some good Sashimi at the Restaurante Vista Hermosa. Juan and the guys hooked us up and made us pretty much anything that we wanted with our fish.

Here's Eric with a really nice Amberjack. We got this one on the bottom with a Bonito cut bait as well. This one really put up a fight!

At the end of the day we had 6 different Species of fish caught. Snapper, Roosterfish, Wahoo, Yellowfin, Bonito and Amberjack. We nailed both the Offshore Species and Inshore Species in one trip! These guys were stoked on a busy day of fishing.

We still have some dates left for June and July so Contact us to book your Charter.

Fishing Report -Sunday June 13, 2010

Fishing Report- Sunday June 13, 2010

Today I was invited to fish on the "Ol' Salt" out of Los Suenos with Capt. Dave Mothershead. We headed for the Venti Seis (26 Rock) to try to get a few Wahoo. The Wahoo bite has been on here in Costa Rica for the past week or two. Here's a photo of the Mate, Jose, with a nice 40+ lb Wahoo and a few smaller ones on the deck. We ended up with 5 Wahoo and also 5 or 6 Bonitos. A fun day of fishing for sure. Thanks to Capt. Dave for letting me ride out on the "Ol' Salt".

We have some Charters coming up this week so check back for more reports and photos.

Fishing Report -Thursday June 10, 2010

Quepos Fishing Report- Thursday June 10, 2010

Today we fished with Chris, MJ, Bryan and Jen. We decided to head out towards the Venti Seis rock to try to get some Wahoo after hearing some good reports over the last few days. We had excellent weather and nice water so now all that was left to do was find the fish. After getting a few Bonitos, MJ stepped up and caught a Wahoo. At the same time we had another strike and Jen caught a nice little Bonito. Nice work on that Double guys!

Here's a funny photo of Chris with one of the Bonitos he caught.

Here's Bryan with one of the many Bonitos that he caught. (We did release the Bonitos!)

Jen had the biggest fish of the day with this nice Wahoo. It hit my shotgun on the tower and took off on two short bursts. Wahoo are super fast and fun to catch. They will be enjoying the Wahoo for dinner over the next few days at the Surf Inn Hermosa. Great work landing that fish Jen!

All in all a great day of fishing! Everyone caught multiple fish and they got some good food as well.

The fishing has been good here in Quepos. We still have some spots open for June so contact us today to book your Charter.

Fishing Report -Monday June 7, 2010

Quepos Fishing Report- June 7, 2010-

We didn't fish today. It was probably good out there but we still have some crazy weather hanging around. Hopefully all of this is going to settle down soon so that we can get back out there and FISH!

Here's a photo of some birds working the baitfish that we were getting the Tunas off of. It was really cool to see the Dolphin, Tuna, Birds and Baitfish going off all at once. After watching the pattern for a while I was getting pretty good at predicting where the Tuna would break the surface. We hit it just right a few times and we ended up with Tunas just bombing through our spread! Sometimes I think they were going so fast and jumping so hard after the flying fish that they never even saw our baits!! We saw some in the 50+ lb range. It would have been nice to hook up on one of those.

We have some groups headed down this month to fish from North Carolina and Florida. Stay tuned for more photos! June dates are filling up so contact us right away to reserve your Charter.

Quepos Costa Rica Fishing Report - 4 June 2010

No fishing for us today. Here's a photo of our new home in the Marina Pez Vela in Quepos. Everyone in Quepos is really happy to be in the Marina, I know I am sleeping better at night knowing that my boat isn't out there in the Harbor. We have had some freak storms lately that I wouldn't have wanted the boat out there for.

We have groups coming next week and on the week of the 15th and 23rd but we still have some dates available. Call or email us to book your Charter. The fishing is really good right now with a lot of boats reporting Marlin, Sailfish and Tuna.

Fishing Report -Thursday June 3, 2010

Fishing Report for Quepos, Costa Rica- Thursday June 3, 2010

Here's a shot from the other day. We were trolling around a huge pod of Dolphin when we were on the Tuna. They were entertaining us with a Aerial Exhibition all day! It seemed like there were hundreds. Different types as well. It's moments like this that make you just stop and look around and enjoy being out on the water. We like to fish hard, but we also like to slow down and enjoy the special moments..... that's what being out there is all about.

We didn't have a Charter today so I'm not sure how the fishing was. I did see some boats go out this morning. I'm sure that they caught fish. The Marlin bite has been on big time and there are Sailfish and Tuna around as well. The fishing is going off in Costa Rica right now!

The weather has been very unstable for the past few weeks. Hopefully we'll break out of that pattern and get some more decent weather to fish this month. We have Charters booked but we still have some space available. Contact us to book your Charter.

Fishing Report -Wednesday June 2, 2010

Fishing Report-

We haven't fished for two days now due to some weather that has been moving through our area. It is the start of the "rainy" season so I guess we will just have to deal with it. There are still plenty of fish out there right now. In the photo above we are releasing a Sailfish in the 100lb range. This is a photo from our trip this past Monday. As you can see, the water is clean and blue where we were fishing despite the formation of the first named Pacific Tropical Storm "Agatha", which claimed quite a few lives as it moved North through Central America. On Monday we were 2 for 4 on Sailfish and 5 of 6 on Tuna so we didn't do too bad. We could have done a little better with the Sails but it was still a nice day of fishing. There were also some boats to the North of us seeing quite a few Marlin but we never did see any.  We fished as hard as we could and were the last boat back to the dock. That's how we do it.

Contact us today to book your Charter.

Fishing Report -Wednesday April 7, 2010

Looks like the La Manta is going in the water in the morning. We have pretty much everything in place except the cockpit flooring and wood trim. We will do that in the water. Hopefully we're fishing within a week. I'm ready!

Fishing Report-

I talked to some guys in Quepos and they are catching the typical 3-7 sails per day. They said the bite has slowed down just a bit off Quepos and picked up off of Los Suenos. Hopefully that body of fish is moving South towards Quepos and next week when the La Manta is ready we can do some good fishing.

Fishing Report -Friday April 2, 2010

Fishing Report:

It's been slow for me as the La Manta has been in dry dock getting painted. The painting is finished and she's looking really sharp. Lots of little stuff to do but most of it can't be done until we are back in the water. Looks like that will be happening on Monday. Easter is the 2nd biggest Holiday of the Year in Costa Rica so not much is going to get done in the next few days! Hopefully we're fishing by the middle of the week. Fingers Crossed, I want to fish!

Fishing Report -Thursday April 1, 2010

No report for today. I didn't talk to any of the Captains so I'm not sure how anyone did. I'm sure that the usual boats out of Quepos did well. The fishing has been really good around this full moon. Hopefully the fishing stays good for the next two months so that we can get the La Manta back out there for some Charters!

I'll update the page when I get some reports.

Fishing Report -Tuesday March 30, 2010

Here's a photo of the La Manta ready to go back in the water. We are going in on the high tide tomorrow afternoon if everything goes as planned.

The fishing is really good right now. I talked to the guys on the Frenzy and they had 7 sails, a Wahoo and two Dorados today. They were killing it! Nice work guys! The Barbarosa raised two Marlin. One was hooked up but broke off and the other never came tight. The clients were filming for a TV show and wanted to try to set their own hooks. Anyway, the fishing is HOT right now in the Central Pacific region of Costa Rica! I cannot wait to get out there and fish!

Thanks for reading and good fishing!

I worked on the La Manta more today and she's probably going in the water on Tuesday. Got the thru hull fixed and Tuna Tubes plumbed. There's a ton of little stuff to do but that can all get done once we are in the water. Hopefully we'll be fishing by the weekend.

Fishing Report-

Capt Dave Dobbins aboard the Barbarosa had a really good day with 4 Sails, a Marlin and a couple Dorados. They were the top boat out of Quepos today.  In some places that would be the best day ever but here in Costa Rica that's just a AVERAGE day!  We will have some photos and reports coming soon from the La Manta. Stay tuned~

Fishing Report -Saturday March 27, 2010

No fishing for me today. It was blazing hot in the Boatyard today. Today was one of the hottest days that I have felt in Costa Rica. I sure hope that we'll get some rain soon. Here's a photo of the La Manta with the new lettering and paint. She really looks good. I'm very pleased with the work.  Capt. David has a Charter tomorrow on the Barbarosa but I'm not going due to the fact that they have 6 people on the Charter. I'll probably take a day away from the yard and surf.

Fishing Report:
Heard from one of the mates today that they got lots of bites around 30 miles out of Quepos. Hopefully the bite will start to pick up some as we get rain. I'll post a report tomorrow after Capt Dave gets back from his trip on the Barbarosa. Good Luck!

thanks for reading and good fishing!

Fishing Report -Friday March 26, 2010

Today we didn't have any charters on the Barbarosa so I went back to check on the La Manta. The painting is being finished as I write this. The guy is coming in the morning to do the lettering on the transom and the registration numbers on the hull. Then we will start putting equipment back on. There is a pretty long list but it's all small stuff. We should be fishing by this time next week!

Fishing Report:
From reading the signs around Quepos it looks like the  boats have been having average fishing with each boat landing at least a couple of Sails and some Dorados. Hopefully this rain that we have been getting offshore is helping to cool the water. Water temps are nearing 90 degrees in some places. That's not good for the fishing......

Thanks for reading and tight lines!

Fishing Report -Thursday March 25, 2010

Went back to check on the LaManta today. The hull is painted. I don't have any photos because my battery on my camera died. This one is from my cell. The boot stripe is finished and they were starting to paint the bottom when I left. We are going in the water in a few days! She looks really good!

Fishing Report -Wednesday March 24, 2010

No fishing today. Went back to the boatyard to check on the La Manta. They were sanding the primer on the hull and getting ready to paint it this afternoon. I'm going to head back down in the morning and check out the paint. It should look really good. It does so far.......

I haven't heard any reports for the last few days but I will post something as soon as possible. I think we may have some trips on the Barbarosa next week. Hope to get back out there soon. We have had some rain so I think the water will be cooling off some and we'll get a shot at some Marlin in the next few months.

tight lines!

Fishing Report -Tuesday March 23, 2010

Fishing Report -Monday March 22, 2010

We don't have any Charters today on the Barbarosa so I went to check out La Manta and see how the painting is coming along. Well, as you can see, they have been priming and prepping everything for painting. She is going to look really nice.

In the photo above all of the white marks that you see are bill marks. I am hoping to have some more of those in the new paint job soon!

Keep checking back for more photos and updates. I will also post some fishing reports once I talk to some of the other Captains.

Thanks for reading and good fishing!

Fishing Report -Sunday March 21, 2010

No fishing today. Capt Dave called last night and said it was real slow for him yesterday. One Sail and 3 Dorados all day. He did say that they got cut off by a couple of Wahoo. It's hard when you get a wahoo on a Circle Hook rig for Billfish. The usually cut the line. The bite may have moved north a bit because my buddy Capt Dave Mothershead, on the Miss Behav'in out of Los Suenos got 7 Sails yesterday. He's been having some tough luck lately so it's nice to hear that they fired em up so hard yesterday! Good work guys!

Fishing Report -Saturday March 20, 2010

Sorry no report for today. I ended up polishing the upper half of the tower. The lower half was masked off so I'll have to do it after they paint. Hopefully the whole thing will be primed and ready to start painting on Monday.

Thanks for reading and good fishing!

Fishing Report -Friday March 19, 2010

Here's a photo of the Lamanta getting prepped for paint. It's not going to be long before she is back in the water. I can't wait to see her with the new paint..... I'm starting to get pretty excited! We should be fully operational in a month or maybe a little less if things really come together.

Not sure how the fishing was today. Tomorrow we are headed out on the Barbarosa again for a full day charter with the same folks that were with us yesterday. They want a Marlin now! Hopefully we can hook them up on one.

Thanks for reading and good fishing!

Fishing Report -Thursday March 18, 2010

Today we fished with a great family out of Ottowa Canada. We started the morning off after running for an hour or two out of Quepos. We heard another boat on the radio that was hooked up on a double with two Sailfish so we headed in that general direction. We had a Sail come up on the long line but we missed it. After that we were bummed because we went another few hours with nothing. The action really picked up after Lunch. We ended up getting 5 more strikes and we caught and released them all! On top of that one of them was a double! A great day of fishing aboard the Barbarosa with Capt. Dave, and Mate Mario. Super Mario as I was calling him!

Fishing Report -Wednesday March 17, 2010

Today we fished on the Barbarosa for a 1/2 day inshore trip with a great group from South Carolina. Bait was scarce due to high water temperatures so we decided to troll Rapalas. We ended up raising one small Roosterfish but he broke off right at the boat. Unfortunately, that was the only fish that we saw all morning.

We're headed out tomorrow for a full day offshore so hopefully there will be a little more action. Our buddy Capt Dave Mothershead on the "Miss Behav'in" out of Los Suenos went 3 for 3 on Sails, a Blue Marlin and they even got a Dorado for dinner. That was yesterday so hopefully we will get some good luck tomorrow.

Thanks for reading and good fishing!
